Jo Murphy first came to Buddhism when her mother died in 2002. Having always been in search of the meaning of life, Jo initially took up study and practice with Buddha House (FPMT) in Adelaide, South Australia. However, she then went on to investigate other dharma paths including Zen and Secular Buddhism. It was not until 2017, on a recommendation from a Gelugpa nun and her spiritual mentor, when Jo attended a month’s retreat with Tsoknyi Rinpoche in Argentina that the 1000 piece dharma jigsaw puzzle began to fall into place somewhat. In 2019, Jo her began studies with Mingyur Rinpoche’s Tergar e-learning, and in 2022 attended a retreat with Mingyur Rinpoche in Portland Oregon US. During those 20 years, Jo retrained and practiced as a refugee lawyer. She is now retired and lives on a surf beach, north of Wollongong NSW, enjoying her volunteer activities with Tergar Australia and the Tsoknyi Gechak School in Kathmandu.
